The San Luis Rio Grande is a Proto-freelanced model railroad depicting the prototype that once was.
The rail lines through the San Luis Valley of Colorado was originally built by the Denver & Rio Grande Western back in the 1870s. In 2003, the line from Wasenburg to Alamos and the other lines in the San Luis Valley were sold off. It was sold again in 2005 to Iowa Pacific Holdings then later sold and renamed in 2022 as the Colorado Pacific Rio Grande railroad. This proto-freelanced model railroad depicts a “what if” in 2022 the line was sold but kept its original name.
